Bancroft Earns All Blue Ribbons at Chester County Reading Olympic Competition

For the sixth year in a row, all three of Bancroft Elementary School’s fifth grade Reading Olympic teams earned blue ribbons – the highest award – at the Chester County Reading Olympic Competition. The teams make us all “Bancroft Proud!”

Beginning in late September 2016, three fifth grade student Reading Olympic teams formed under the coaching of Mr. David Livergood, Bancroft’s Reading Olympic coordinator and library media specialist. Students began reading 45 books on the official reading list. They read, took comprehension online quizzes, wrote their own questions, learned strategy, and practiced competing as teams. They even competed three times against a Bancroft Elementary School faculty team.

At the Chester County competition, the Bancroft Elementary School teams competed against teams from across Chester County. As teams, they participated in three rounds where they answered various questions about the 45 books they read. Each round contained 20 questions per team, and if the opposing team missed a question, the other team could earn a point by answering the question correctly. After all three rounds, teams with 50 points or more were awarded blue ribbons as the awards ceremony at West Chester East High School.
