Community Garden Yields Healthy Crop

Bancroft Elementary School’s community garden is doing great this summer! As you can see from these pictures, the garden is producing many healthy vegetables such as kale, tomatoes, cucumbers, and many varieties of peppers! Bancroft Announces Read for the Gold Winners

Congratulations to Bancroft Elementary School’s winning classes and students (below) for the Read for the Gold reading incentive program received their trophies the last week of school. Top classes (shown in the gallery display above) were first grade, Mrs. Peterson’s class, second grade, Mrs. Pin’s class, third grade, Miss Clendening’s class, fourth grade, Miss Sipple’s class, and fifth grade, Mrs. Smith’s class. Individual student winners per grade can be viewed in gallery display below. Each top class and student per grade level earned the most AR (Accelerated Reader) points by reading books and taking AR comprehension quizzes on each book. Congratulations to each top class and student per grade level!

Bancroft’s Final Morning Meeting Highlights Students

At Bancroft Elementary School’s final school-wide Morning Meeting for the 2015-2016 school year, many classes performed their favorite activities for all to enjoy. Everyone sang the school song, written and led by Mrs. Michelle Strictland, Bancroft Elementary School’s music teacher. Mrs. Leah McComsey, Bancroft Elementary School’s principal, read the last two ‘Bancroft Proud’ essays written by fifth grade students looking back on their time at the school. Under the direction of the school’s counselor, Mrs. Turner, the fifth grade bus helpers were saluted, and everyone enjoyed watching a movie about Field Day 2016 that was created by Mr. David Livergood, Bancroft Elementary School’s library media specialist.

Bancroft Hosts Responsive Classroom Conference

Mrs. Leah McComsey, principal of Bancroft Elementary School, is proud to announce that the was the site of a Responsive Classroom Conference and workshop for the third summer in a row. This year’s conference hosted 126 participants, 10 of which are teachers at Bancroft Elementary School. Participants traveled from as far as Vermont, Connecticut, Ohio and various other states to attend this workshop as Bancroft Elementary School is one of the only schools on the East Coast to host this special event. Many participants stayed in the local hotels, shopped uptown in Kennett Square and ate in our local restaurants. Everyone was very complementary about our warm and welcoming town and our beautiful host school!
Bancroft Responsive Classroom
This week of learning helps to support the school-wide philosophy in Responsive Classroom strategies and techniques so that all students feel comfortable, accepted and welcomed into the learning environment which then allows students to be better learners. Congratulations to these 10 dedicated teachers who kicked off their summer break with a week of learning that they will take into next year to make the 2016–2017 school year the best yet! At the conclusion of this conference, Bancroft Elementary School will have 99% of their entire teaching staff trained in Responsive Classroom strategies!

Bancroft’s Summer Lending Library Ready For Patrons

This summer, when your child needs a new book to read, stop by Bancroft Elementary School and look forSummer sharing library the miniature Bancroft building. This sharing library is open year round and is free to the Bancroft Elementary School community, the Kennett Square area, and beyond! Built by two parents, students can open the roof and select a book to read. Bancroft Elementary School’s PTO, headed by Mrs. Yvonne Shortlidge, will keep the compact lending library stocked with books throughout the summer months so students will always have a new book to read. Patrons are encouraged to register in the guest sign in book and write a book recommendation.

Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Students Visit Bancroft

On Tuesday, June 7, Bancroft Elementary School’s future first grade students visited from Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center. They arrived on the bus and had breakfast with us. The kindergarten students also visited first grade classrooms and participated in our morning meetings. When finished, they toured the playground and prepared to go back to the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center for one of the last times. We can’t wait to see them in August when they come as Bancroft Elementary School first grade students!

Bancroft Students Excel at Special Olympics

On Wednesday, May 26th Mrs. Sara Simasek’s students participated in the Southern Chester County Special Olympics. The weather was picture perfect as Kennett’s Special Olympians boarded the bus wearing their T-shirts and excited smiles. At the event, the students ran 100 meters and threw softballs and tennis balls for distance. As they had practiced, they cheered to support their fellow athletes. Each student proudly received ribbons after his/her events amidst the applause of teachers, peers, and families. Bancroft Elementary School’s teachers and classmates supported the athletes with posters, cards, and high fives. The students represented our school with pride by being the best they could be at the Special Olympics!
