Lydia Duckworth, Aydan Heilman, Christina Mathewson, and Zachary Mannices were great representatives of Bancroft Elementary School at the 2016 Chester County Envirothon Competition on May 4, 2016. At Hibernia Park, the group competed with groups from across the county after months of studying local flora and fauna, as well as a current issue. At each of the five stations they showed their knowledge in aquatics, wildlife, forestry, invasive species, and outdoor safety. After the stations, all the students watched a presentation on reptiles from a professional who works at a reptile sanctuary in Pennsylvania.
As the first students to ever compete from Bancroft Elementary School the students exceeded their own expectations, scoring excellent performances in the forestry and outdoor safety competitions. In addition, they turned in the Kennett Consolidated School District’s best ever showing in aquatic organisms!
Most importantly, the group learned more about the natural world and the inhabitants with which we share it! We are most certainly Bancroft Proud of this group!
