On Wednesday, May 26th Mrs. Sara Simasek’s students participated in the Southern Chester County Special Olympics. The weather was picture perfect as Kennett’s Special Olympians boarded the bus wearing their T-shirts and excited smiles. At the event, the students ran 100 meters and threw softballs and tennis balls for distance. As they had practiced, they cheered to support their fellow athletes. Each student proudly received ribbons after his/her events amidst the applause of teachers, peers, and families. Bancroft Elementary School’s teachers and classmates supported the athletes with posters, cards, and high fives. The students represented our school with pride by being the best they could be at the Special Olympics!

Bancroft Students Participate in Chester County Envirothon Competition
Lydia Duckworth, Aydan Heilman, Christina Mathewson, and Zachary Mannices were great representatives of Bancroft Elementary School at the 2016 Chester County Envirothon Competition on May 4, 2016. At Hibernia Park, the group competed with groups from across the county after months of studying local flora and fauna, as well as a current issue. At each of the five stations they showed their knowledge in aquatics, wildlife, forestry, invasive species, and outdoor safety. After the stations, all the students watched a presentation on reptiles from a professional who works at a reptile sanctuary in Pennsylvania.
As the first students to ever compete from Bancroft Elementary School the students exceeded their own expectations, scoring excellent performances in the forestry and outdoor safety competitions. In addition, they turned in the Kennett Consolidated School District’s best ever showing in aquatic organisms!
Most importantly, the group learned more about the natural world and the inhabitants with which we share it! We are most certainly Bancroft Proud of this group!
Bancroft Students Shine at 24 Tournament
The 2016 Math 24 tournament was a fun way to celebrate math! The Math 24 game focuses on mental computational skills, problem solving, and critical thinking. Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades met once a week with Mrs. Smith to practice the game and learn new strategies. Bancroft Elementary School shined at the tournament and had six finalists. Every single one of the participants were respectful, kind, and incredibly hardworking. Way to go, Bancroft!
